Triathlon Coach
Henry James
I founded Proven Performance Coaching in 2020 with the aim to provide professional level Triathlon coaching to those looking to get faster, learn more about endurance training, and find enjoyment in the process. Since then we've guided athletes to sub 3hour marathons, sub 16minute 5kms, sub 10hour Ironmans, achieved professional/elite licenses, taken athletes from complete beginner to Ironman finisher, and lots more!
I draw from my personal experience having raced all distances from super sprint to Ironman as both an age group and professional athlete, all whilst balancing full time work. This has given me a wealth of knowledge to share with athletes I coach from training design, to tapering and race preparation, tactical/technical aspects of racing, equipment choices, and more. Seeing the athletes we coach progress and achieve what they set out to do is highly rewarding, giving people the platform to exceed what they ever thought was possible.
I'm based in Cheltenham (Gloucestershire) and have a valuable network of local complimentary service providers which enables me to bring other experts in to help your journey as required. If you are local, 1:1 coaching sessions can be arranged.

Cycling Coach
Tom Hartwell
I've been coaching athletes since 2020, undertaking a coaching scholarship whilst part of the University of Leeds Cycling Club led me into supporting many athletes; my pursuit of coaching now enables me to share my passion for cycling and endurance sport. I guide my athletes through physical and technical preparation, working closely with them to ensure they can achieve the goals we set out and perform to the highest level possible.
I personally race all disciplines of cycling, and have strong backgrounds in Road and MTB. I'm a huge advocate of cyclists getting stuck into races when possible, trying different events and disciplines to find what they enjoy and areas we can work on.
Exercise Physiologist
David James
I grew up competing as a Modern Pentathlete, having competed at three Junior World Championships and held the position of team manager for the elite squads. When moving on from my time competing I worked in sports science and high performance sport for a large portion of my career, later moving into senior management as an executive member at the University of Gloucestershire. This brings a balanced approach with specific expertise in endurance and multi-disciplinary sport. I have a BSc in Sports Science and PhD in Exercise Physiology, having published widely on respiratory and cardiovascular physiology, athlete assessment, and training science.
I contribute to the foundational principles that all our coaches use with the athletes, working with them on an ongoing basis to ensure our athletes are targeting the right areas. If athletes want physiological assessments to add further insights into their training I can take them through this process, utilising lactate threshold testing to nail down the finer details.

Gwen & Sean Kinsey
I (Gwen) raced to Scottish national level at swimming as a youngster, however converted to Modern Pentathlon after finding a love for riding horses. This led to a highly successful professional career winning the British Junior Championships, competing at Senior World and European Championships, winning a relay gold medal in Budapest in 1999, and silver in Pesaro in 2000. More recently I have competed in Triathlon with many age group World and European titles. I am super passionate about helping others in their journey, now being a British Triathlon Level 1 coach, with multiple years of experience.
I (Sean) have swam to a high level all my life, my greatest achievement as a youngster was finishing 5th in the National 1500m Championships! Over the years I've competed internationally across Modern Pentathlon, Biathle, Aquathlon, and Masters swimming. I've had a more recent open water speciality as this is my passion, winning multiple masters medals at the open water championships. I am a Swim England Level 2 open water swimming coach, Swim England Assistant Coach at our local swimming club (currently training to become a full coach), and British Triathlon Group Coach, all enabling me to use my technical and tactical knowledge to help others.
We are the swim specific coaches within the Proven Performance family. We provide technical analysis across our endless pool, regular pool, and open water, to help you become more confident, efficient, and get more enjoyment out of your swimming.
